Celebrated actress and renowned TV producer Sonia Mbele has opened up following the news that her son, Donell Mbele, had allegedly beaten up his girlfriend to a pulp. Her son's girlfriends claims to have almost been raped and killed because she caught him cheating. Sonia has wildly spoken about the abuse she endured in her past relationship with Donell's dad.
SHE HAS SONIA'S LOVE AND SUPPORT
In a statement the single mother of three expressed her sadness. "I woke up this morning to a different world, a world I thought I had long buried. From the age of 17 to 26 I was with a man who was abusive, physically, psychologically and emotionally, " The former Soul City actress says as a women who has suffered all kinds of abuse she does not stand for, support nor condone such behaviour. Sonia recalls not only did she welcome Reokeditswe Makete into her home but treated her as a daughter.
"I worked with her in support of her career in the entertainment industry, and right now I would like to reassure her that she still has my love and full support'
SHE WISHES SHE COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING
The mother of three, who also found the sad news via her social media wishes that Makete had reached out to her first as she's been fond of her, than "finding out on social media. It broke my heart. I've always been there, I've always been supportive.' Sonia also acknowledges that as a parent she should have done something to rehabilitate her son who was exposed to abuse from his dad at an early age. She also encourages other parents to take their children for counselling or therapy
"I now realise I should have taken preventative measures much earlier such as counseling and/or child therapy, but sometimes the mistake we tend to make as African single mothers is to assume and hope that things will work out for the best meanwhile certain past behaviours can affect generations to come.' She says, however, her son Donell has to take full responsibility for his own actions. "I refuse to raise a man like his father. Rehab, therapy and internal healing will prevail.'
