Two men have been arrested following a robbery in Parkgate in KwaZulu Natal on Sunday. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from an emotional 55-year-old man requesting assistance at his residence after she was robbed by her son.?
TRYING TO ESCAPE
The caller's 21-year-old drug-addicted son was in the process of robbing his mother for her Huawei cellphone. Upon arrival, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Officers were informed that the suspect had fled the scene. Officers circulated the area and the suspect was spotted entering a bush. "The officers surrounded the bush and kept observation," says an eyewitness. RUSA spokesperson Prem Belram says, "We saw the man selling the cell phone to an unknown male. As security officers approached, both men fled in different directions. The suspect who purchased the cell phone was immediately arrested. The stolen item was recovered in his possession."
THE ARREST
Belram further says that the 21-year-old was arrested minutes later and he confirmed that he sold the cellphone for R30. "The money was to be used to purchase crack cocaine .His parents confirmed that he had been tormenting them for cash to purchase drugs and eventually resorted to stealing household items which he sold to support his addiction," he said. Both suspects were detained at the Verulam SAPS.
