Seputla has had to turn jobs because he can't speak isiZulu

Former Generations actor Seputla Sebogodi said that this year alone he has turned down five acting roles because they required him to speak IsiZulu. Sebogodi, who has enjoyed many years as a leading actor said this during an interview with Kaya FM's Thabo Mokwele.
"This year alone I had to turn down five roles in staples and drama series because they asked me if I can speak IsiZulu. If you can't speak Zulu be prepared to starve. You must be ready to be killed by hunger. They said this Sepedi speaking person cannot be able to kill this role? In South Africa if you don't speak IsZulu, you're as good as scramble eggs. Tell me of a soapie that has no IsiZulu speaking person, I'll give you a million. None!" he said.

IF YOU DON'T ISIZULU, YOU ARE DOOMED

Sebogodi's career began in the 90's in the local Sepedi drama called Bophelo Ke Semphekgo where he was playing the role of Nkwesheng. He went on to be a series regular being featured in the long running soapie Generations and now defunct Rhythm City. "Even Skeem Saam has IsiZulu speaking actors. If you don't speak IsiZulu, it's a big deal. Check how many awards are being done in Durban alone.Whether its gospel or artists what what but in Limpopo very few. How come those people in Durban get it right? We are not recognised," he said.
