After two years of working at the station, he unceremoniously resigned from Radio 2000 last week. This is as radio stations around the country announces changes to their line-up for 2023. Award-winning radio host Bongani Mtolo will be joining KwaZulu-Natal regional commercial radio station Igagasi FM.
RADIO 2000 WANTED TO RENEW HIS CONTRACT
Mtolo who joining Radio 2000, from East Coast Radio was apparently no longer happy at the station. A source close to the situation reveals that the station still wanted to renew his contract, but he decided to leave. In a statement he shared on his social media pages last week, Mtolo said that he would not renew his contract. "Thank you to the team Nala, Lonwabo, Thabo, Dineo and Aviwe. We did amazing things together. We were voted the Best Breakfast show in the country back-to-back (Liberty radio awards) namanje kusaphethe thina. The show is now making money, we attracted advertising, 'talkability'. The one thing I'm most proud of is we had fun. And to the 2 million Gang Gang thank you for rocking with me. Danko!' he wrote. Radio 2000 issued a statement on Monday confirming his exit from the station. "Sadly, Mr. Bongani Mtolo has decided to not be part of the station's future plans. The SABC wishes him well in his future endeavors and Radio 2000 will announce its full line-up in due course,' the statement said.
A JOB HOPPER
Mtolo is known for job hopping. In 2018, he tendered his resignation as a drive-time host on East Coast Radio only to return a few days later. It was reported that he retracted his resignation and signed a two-year contract. He refused to for comment about the rumours that he was unhappy about certain things at the the station back then. When ZiMoja asked him for a comment on his new home Mtolo laughed and said "No comment'
?AN OFFER HE COULDN'T RESIST
ZiMoja has leant that the well-spoken host was offered an offer he could not refuse. Sources close to the cagey radio personality says he has been dropping hints that he will be hosting a prime slot. It is unclear whether he will be joining someone on a show or if he will host his own show. "With many reshuffling on radio we never know, but he hinted that he will be hosting a prominent slot, that could be breakfast or the morning or maybe mid show, no one knows yet,' adds the source.
