It's that time of the year when the E! People's Choice Awards celebrate all the different forms of entertainment and winners are chosen entirely by the fans through votes and consist of 40 categories across TV, music, movies, and pop culture. The awards celebrate the best in pop culture. Now in its 48th year, the People's Choice Awards were created in 1975 by Robert Stivers and previously owned by Procter & Gamble and produced by Mark Burnett airing on CBS.

Ugandan content creator, model, actress, and human rights advocate Angella Summer Namubiru was voted for as African Social Star in 2022. South African digital creator Sphokuhle "S.crumptious' Ntshalintshali and actress, musician and entrepreneur from Nigeria, Liquorose placed second and third respectively. Sphokuhle tells Zimoja that she did not expect to be nominated. "The nomination is really something I wasn't expecting. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd be nominated for such a prestigious award. I'm honestly just filled with gratitude.' On the day the winner was announced, Sphokuhle had to reassure herself that she is in the right place at the right time. "I was very nervous,I think mainly because of the people I was nominated with but I started telling myself that God wouldn't have put me in that position if I didn't deserve to be there, we all deserved to be there!
THE FUTURE FOR SPHOKUHLE
Between 26 October and 9 November 2022, E! asked fans worldwide to vote in 40 categories across TV, music, movies, and pop culture. Now in its fourth year,African Social Star is the People's Choice Awards category dedicated to Africa's biggest social media stars and influencers. Sphokuhle has been a content creator for three years now.' But, prior to that, I used to create content on older apps like triller and but never posted any of my videos. Winning this award just proves that nothing is impossible.' She hopes to encourage others to never give up on their dreams. "I want every young girl to dream big and never let society tell them what to do with their dreams and aspirations,' she says.' I believe that I have so much to offer to myself and Africa as a whole. I see myself venturing into a lot of other things and using my resources to change other people's lives in a positive light.'
