President Curil Ramaphosa will take his time before deciding on who to get rid of in his cabinet. Ramaphosa told reporters the cabinet reshuffle will happen when he had applied his mind. He was speaking during the Presidential Golf Day held in Bloemfontein Golf Club yesterday soon after the conclusion of the ANC's 55th National conference on Friday."That is the most pre-eminent thing in your thoughts. Just obliterate that and wait for the moment when the president will apply his mind. So relax, have a cup of coffee, sit back and watch this space," he told the media.
CABINET RESHUFFLE
The President is expected to make some changes within his cabinete specially with ministers who have not made the new national executive committee (NEC). Some of the people that are expected to be axed are Minister of Tourism Lindiwe Sisulu and Minister of Cooperative GovernanceDr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. The conference was officially closed on Friday. The hybrid conference was attended by 3000 delegates who joined at different hubs across the country with the main one in Imvelo Safari Lodge in Bloemfontein in the Free State. Speaking to delegates Ramaphosa said that this was an opportunity for the party to renew itself. "We have acknowledged our shortcomings and considered the factors that have contributed to the erosion of our standing among the people. While the economy is producing better outcomes and growth sectors are performing better, we believe as the ANC we must ensure our growth is inclusive and creates much needed jobs," said Ramaphosa.
DEALING WITH COUNTRY'S CHALLENGES
Conference delegates also agreed to address the immediate challenges the country faces including chronic unemployment, the electricity crisis and the rising cost of living. "Our resolutions set out a path towards comprehensive and sustainable social protection and to the provision of affordable housing and basic services for all. We have outlined steps to further strengthen our police service and other law enforcement agencies to improve the effectiveness of our criminal justice system and to improve the security of our borders," Ramaphosa said. The party further adopted resolutions which include the creation of a monitoring and evaluation unit at the ANC head office to monitor the service delivery of the deployees in government. The party also resolved to increase funding for political parties following the unintended consequences of the Party Funding Act on major political parties. The conference proceedings had to be abandoned in December after delegates failed to work through its full agenda in the five days it had allocated. This was largely due to delays in the registration of delegates.
