Prayers for the Zulu King

ANC Women's League is heading to the Royal Palace to deliver prayers for the Zulu King ahead of his coronatoon

With less than two weeks left before the world witnesses one of the most epochal events of this century, scores of ANC Women's League members will  descend to the royal place of AmaZulu King, His Majesty MisuZulu ka Zwelithini's to hold a prayer service ahead of his much-anticipated coronation. The ceremony to pray for the success of the coronation, which is expected to be attended by thousands of people including heads of state, will be led by ANC Women's League heavyweights including the league's national leadership.

It will be held at KwaKhangela Royal Palace in Nongoma and the delegation will also discuss a number of issues with His Majesty including how to stem the tide of Gender-Based Violence, etc. KwaZulu- Natal ANC Women's League Provincial Task Team Coordinator Fikile Masiko said the organisation had decided to visit the palace to meet His Majesty, King MisuZulu ka Zwelithini ahead of the much-anticipated handing over of the certificate by the President of the country.

She said the coronation was not only going to be the most important event to be witnessed by all South Africans, but also because the King's reign was taking place during the most challenging period in the history of the country and beyond."The handing over of the certificate by the President Cyril Ramaphosa to the Zulu King, MisuZulu-kaZwelithini is going to be a special event in many ways, because this will be the first time that many people will witness such an event in their lifetime. It is against this backdrop that as the Women's League Provincial Task Team we decided to hold the ceremony at the King's Palace to seek divine intervention for the success of the event," said Masiko.

She added, "Critically, the King's reign also coincides with the most challenging time in the history of humanity. Globally, the world faces an uncertain future because of the Russia and Ukraine war, which has had a ripple effect across the globe. Our country also faces a cocktail of social challenges such as unemployment, poverty and inequality which has exacerbated social ills such as Gender-Based Violence. This, therefore, means that we all have a duty to support the King and the entire Royal Family as our symbol of unity and social cohesion.'

The significance of the prayer is also underscored by the fact that the reigning monarch's very own grandmother, Queen Thomozile, was a bloused member of the ANC Women's League and annually the league had been hosted by the late King as they brought prayer to the Royal Palace. "This Thursday will be the King's first time to experience the visit by the Women's League and we are excited to continue a tradition that has underpinned the relationship between the ANC and the Royal House over a number of years," said Masiko.
