"People had to die first"- Finetown residents after getting mobile police station

Finetown has scored a mobile police station after a random shooting that claimed six lives

Finetown residents expressed relief after a mobile police station was delivered to their kasi yesterday. Even though it was a couple of days late, residents said its better late than never. A shooting that claimed seven lives and left six injured put Finetown on the spotlight and from what was said, the area is a playground for trigger happy individuals.

PEOPLE HAD TO DIE FIRST

Reisdent Mpuse Moloto told Zimoja that it'sunfortunate that people had to die first before the police and government took action."It's been years since we've asked for our own police station and police visibility in our area with no luck. We've had to walk to Ennerdale, which is the nearest station." She said the walk alone is terrifying because it is dark with no street lights. "Sometimes you have an emergency at night and need police help. When you call, they don't answer. There are no taxis on the road and the only option left is to walk for 3km. You don't know what you might come across on the way. If you're lucky, you'll make it without being targeted by criminals. Nonetheless I'm happy because there's been police activity in the area which is something new to us,"she said.

AMABERETHE YET TO COME

Police Minister Bheki Cele promised the residents a mobile police station and the deployment of the Tactical Response Team ,better known "amabherethe", as per the request. However Cele refused to disclose when the team would arrive. This comes after Thabang Kose, a street vendor selling chicken dust, was targeted by robbers but managed to fight them with the help of his friends. They threw stones at the robbers and the car the tsotsi's were in fled. Unfortunately the robbers came back on foot and started shooting . Eleven people were victims of this attack with six succumbing to the injuries. SAPS spokeswoman Brigadier Brenda Muridili said:"The police in Gauteng can confirm that as promised the mobile (station) that was promised to the community of Finetown, as well as surrounding areas that are policed by Ennerdale, has already been handed over to the station commander."
