Yesterday the vigilante group against illegal immigrants took a bus to launch their movement with the residents of Jane Furse in Limpopo. However they were met with the unexpected when a group of unknown men allegedly came from nowhere and started shooting at them.
RANDOM SHOOTING
National co-ordinator of Operation Dudula, Thabo Ngayo said they were at the local sports ground for the launch, when a group of men started shooting randomly at them, killing one of their members. "We were at the grounds where we were supposed to launch the operation. We were still planning on how to address the residents when we were ambushed. One of the bullets caught one of our comrades and then those guys ran away and disappeared. We were forced to withdraw because there was nothing we could do," he said.
THEIR APPROACH LABELLED AS XENOPHOBIC
Operation Dudula was launched with the purpose of ousting illegal foreigners and forcing them to go back to their countries. The movement believes that unemployment is ever increasing because companies hire cheap labour offered by illegal immigrants. They have also labelled illegal foreigners as criminals who commit crime in SA and then flee to their countries or go into hiding and are never held accountable. Unfortunately some have labelled Dudula's approach as xenophobic and inhumane leading to retaliation. Dudula's national Secretary Zandile Dubula denied that the movement was xenophobic. She said it was merely forcing the government to apply the immigration laws.
