His career is flourishing. He recently released the single 10 Kilometres (10KM) with Mas Musiq inspired by Brenda Fassie's 1989 song. Vocalist and songwriter Daliwonga Matiwane tells ZiMoja that his song is all about heartbreak. "We didn't sample the beat by Brenda Fassie but the melody and lyrics are inspired by her hit,' he says. "My song is about heartbreak, not that I am going through it. We made the song around Valentine's Day, we had to give the people something.' Daliwonga has also been announced as the new ambassador for Cîroc where the likes of local and international stars Banky W and D'banj, Bonang Matheba, David Tlale, and Da Les also once represented. "It was easy for me to decide to be part of the brand. Ciroc is for rock stars, the likes of Cassper and P. Diddy. I feel like they align with the Daliwonga brand, a boy from Soweto, a happy person, loves people and music.' The vocalist shares some interesting facts about his life.
FAMILY
Family is very important to Daliwonga. He tells ZiMoja that he has a twin brother named Dalindyebo who is into music production. "We are very different; he is the opposite of me but we resemble each other a lot. He is more quiet, short, and lighter-skinned but siyafana, in our eyes, and smiles. He can hold a note but he is more into production. He has worked with DJ Stokie, De Mthuda, and a lot of people. Daliwonga is also related to musician Sir Trill who is his cousin.
HIS INFLUENCE
The Abo Mvelo singer was born and raised in Soweto where he grew up listening to a lot of Afto-Pop, RnB, and a lot of artists from the US. "I also sang gospel. I was a leader in the church choir. That played a big role in my style and my personality.'
HIS IDEA OF FAME
Before his career blew up, his idea of stardom was just him being on stage and singing. "But it changed. I needed to understand the importance of discipline, focus, and hard work. It's easy to get distracted by negativity. I always stay away from engaging in social media discussions. I like to keep my private life, exactly that, private.
COMPARISONS
He often gets compared to vocalists; Samthing Soweto, Young Stunna, and Sir Trill among many others, but that does not faze him. "There are a lot of comparisons, unnecessary competition, and pitting of people. I try to run away from that. Samthing Soweto gave us the wave, like in any style or genre, someone starts a wave. He inspired me and a lot of us, but not just me. Getting into the scene, he was the number one vocalist, he gave us the wave. But I'm no copycat. I think people are able to differentiate between me and him. And as an artist, If you are to focus on that a lot, then you will fail. I am human, I get offended sometimes, but I don't take the comparisons seriously. I work with the bros, we are cool. I haven't as yet worked with Sam and I'm sure, I will in the future.'
