Langa Mavuso and Da Capo among those who need to find new home

Internationally acclaimed Black Coffee has shut Soulistic Music and made way for a management company Soulistic Agency

Black Coffee has called it quits and released all artists under his label, Soulistic Music and instead made way for a management company, Soulistic Agency. The internationally acclaimed deejay will represent actress Nomvelo Makhanya, his son DJ Sona and himself. But the talented Langa Mavuso, Una Rams, Da Capo and EnooNapa will have to decide which route to take as their old home, which was started in 2005, is no more.

ARTISTS SHOULD OWN THEIR MUSIC RIGHTS

Soulistic Agency Publicist Nametso Chabedi confirmed to Zimoja that Soulistic Music is no more. "We are no longer a record label. We have since released all the artists under the label. Only Black Coffee is under the label. Sona is an independent artist but he is signed under Soulistic Agency. The entity still exists with the founder left as the only artist. He did this as he believes artists should own their music and rights fully,' she said.

HEAVY CRITICISM

Over the years, Black Coffee has come under heavy criticism especially when Eshowe born Dj Culoe De Song allegedly dumped Soulistic Music after he felt nothing was done to promote his music. His exit from the company led to Tembisa born DJ Shimza to jump ship too, complaining about his boss frustrating his progress. Another artist was the legendary wheelchair bound DJ Kabila, who quit the stable claiming that he was not well looked after but the stable played down those allegations claiming that the DJ wanted to explore other possibilities within the music industry.
