How the TV industry spat out actress Liopelo Maphathe

Liopelo Maphathe talks openly about how the industry spit her out

Actress Liopelo Maphathe is making a comeback on TV. Many would remember her as a household name back in the early 2000s. Back in the day, she was a fan favourite where her beauty and charisma made her to stand out from fellow colleagues. Although she captured many viewers at home, unfortunately fame was not so kind towards her.

CLAIMING HER SPACE

Liopelo has opened up about being written off by certain producers, who didn't want her to get a TV gig, despite her talent. The single mother who lost her dad, says she is coming back to claim her space in the dog-eat-dog showbiz industry. It's been over ten years since the beautiful Lesotho-born captured the hearts of soapie lovers.
Speaking exclusively to Zimoja, Liopelo confirms landing a new role on a telenovela
With her charming signature smile, she asks,"News travel fast. How do you know that I have landed a new gig?'
Liopelo says she is grateful to be a part of something with longevity and stability. She says she is even more grateful to have a stable salary, especially as an actress in the country where gigs are scarce.
"People see glamour and think that our industry has money. We are not even close to what Hollywood stars are making," she adds.

PRETENTIOUS INDUSTRY

A lot has happened since Liopelo disappeared from the small screen. She says the acting industry has not always been kind to her.
Liopelo, who was once at a peak of her career,  says she woke up one day and nobody wanted to work with her for reasons she still doesn't understand.
"I felt cheated by the industry. Suddenly no one wanted to be affiliated with me and for what? "
She says at first she was hurt, but she had to be strong. She says giving up was not an option as she had to think out of the box. She says it was also a blessing in disguise to get rejected because she now knows who her true friends are, especially in this "pretentious entertainment industry".
She says, "To be honest, I am grateful for every experience God throws at me - be it good or bad. I take it as a lesson. A lot of people are surrounded by fake people. Now, I know who my true friends are.''

LOSING THE IMPORTANT MAN IN HER LIFE

Last year she lost her businessman father and says it has been a hard journey for her, without him.
"My father was my everything. He was my confidante, friend and a grandfather. He knew my struggles and frustrations of the industry. He knew how I felt cheated by the industry and when I lost him, my world stopped completely.''
Liopelo says she has gained an angel in him, and she is confident that he's guarding over her.
