Flamboyant TV and radio broadcaster Siphiwo 'Spitch' Nzawumbi has landed his dream job in Dubai. On the downside, he is leaving Umhlobo Wenene FM after working for Eastern Cape-based radio station for a number of years
ANNOUNCING HIS DEPARTURE
This week he posted on Twitter that he's leaving station, and seeking greener pastures. Spitch previously hosted the popular midday slot on the station for three years before his exit two years ago. "To all my VukaMzantsi listeners on @UWFM88_106FM, tomorrow morning I will be hosting my last show with you. Due to the new developments in my life, I've had to make a few changes. This is not the end of me in broadcasting, you will hear from me soon. It's goodbye, for now."The management of Umhlobo Wenene tried to persuade him to stay, but he couldn't as he landed his dream job in Dubai. According to a deep throat he was hoping to keep his radio job because nowadays it is easy to work from anywhere but the management was not prepared to address the issue of Spitch broadcasting from Dubai
DRAMA BEHIND THE SCENES
ZiMoja has learnt that behind the scenes things are not as amicable as they seem. According to insiders Spitch wanted to broadcast from Dubai but he was told that will only happen in his dream as his contract stipulates that he can only work for the station around South Africa. "He was hoping that he can still work from Dubai because radio is flexible, Remember when Tbo Touch announced that he was moving to the US and will be working from that side? He also thought he could pull the same stunt but unfortunately management told him it's either Dubai or his contract will be terminated " says the source. According to a source, the station was not prepared for technical issues like sound distortions, also issues of time's difference hence the contract states that you can only work for the station only when you are in South Africa. When called for comment station manager Loyiso Bala said he is not at liberty to comment "All our media communication is centralised so I am not in a position to answer directly'
WHO WILL TAKE OVER
Zimoja can also reveal that the station has also found a replacement. He will be replaced by the afternoon drive time host Amaza Ntshanga, which means Amaza is going to be doing six days of radio " According to the source the station did not want to go look outside when they have a talented broadcaster who can do the job and still bring numbers
