Videos and pictures  are circulating on social media of people screaming in pain, naked and their skin peeled off by an explosion in Boksburg that has sent shockwaves across the country.Some of the people lay lifeless in the streets clearly caught off guard by what has turned out to be a tragic Christmas Eve.

The incident happened in Boksburg after a gas tanker truck exploded near the Tambo Memorial  Hospital this morning. According to Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesman William Ntladi, 10 people were killed during the explosion and six fire fighters and 50 other people  are seriously injured and in hospital.

LIVES LOST AND STRUCTURAL DAMAGE

Ntladi explained that the gas tanker got stuck under a bridge and started burning and fire fighters were attending to it when it exploded. "Two houses caught fire and the casualty ward at Tambo Memorial has suffered structural damage because the roof caved in. A fire engine as well as two other vehicles also burnt. It is believed that the truck attempted to pass under a low bridge and the friction from the forced entry caused a gas leak,"said Ntladi. He said  the subway bridge is completely destroyed.
