The KwaZulu Natal State of the Province Address was disrupted after the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) disrupted the event that was held at the Provincial Legislature on Friday.
ACCUSATIONS
The EFF accused Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube of being a liar after she had promised to set aside money to help families who were affected by the 2022 deadly floods in KwaZuluNatal. The EFF were embroiled in a scuffle with security personnels after the Speaker of the legislature Nontombeko Boyce ordered that they must be removed from the house for disrupting the premier when she tried to deliver her maiden speech.
EMPTY PROMISES
The red berets argued that Dube-Ncube lied to the National Assembly last week when she told the Parliament that President Cyril Ramaphosa had committed R1 billion for flood victims. When Ncube Dube was about to address the Legislature, EFF members started howling at the premier demanding that her fellow ANC comrade Siboniso Duma address the house. "She lied under oath; we cannot be addressed by a liar today. Our people are still wondering where the money to rebuild their homes is. They are still languishing in halls," said Mongezi Twala, EFF, KZN chairperson. Twala further said: "This embargoed there lies and we cannot be addressed by a liar. Who said she must go there and lie representing this House? We must suspend this session and get someone honourable to address this House, not Nomusa Dube,' KZN was hit by floods in April in 2022 which saw many families around Durban losing their loved ones and their homes. The floods forced the government to move the families into halls until they are placed in newly built homes.
CRITICISM
In the North West, premier Bushy Maape faced a lot of criticism from opposition who disrupted his state of the province address. The EFF demanded an apology from Maape for saying the roads in the province were in good condition. The EFF Members of Legislature had to be escorted out of the chamber as they demanded Maape to apologise, or they wouldn't give him a chance to speak. They had to be escorted out of the chamber because they were not in a state to understand as they demanded that Maape apologise for his remarks.
In Limpopo, the EFF did not disrupt Sopa as promised, they wanted Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba to recuse herself from the session as they accused her of xenophobia.
EFF Limpopo leader Tshilidzi Maraga said everything the premier said was said during the last Sopa. "This is cut and paste. It is the same script recited last year but edited with gorgeous words to fool us. This was just an election gimmick by the premier, based on false promises in an endeavour to woo more support for the ANC in the upcoming general elections next year.' Maraga said.
