Arthur Mafokate is determined to clear his name after being fingered as one of the people to have allegedly benefitted unlawfully from the National Lotteries Commission. In a sit-down interview with journalist DannyMdluli, Arthur details what his company has done with funds given to him by the National Lotteries Commission since 2015. The King of kwaito shed tears during the interview, but viewers were not moved.
ARTHUR SPEAKS
The Kwaito veteran said the accusations have affected his personal life and relationships with businesses, partners and funders. "My parents are ill and have been affected badly. Brian has been sending messages to my parents saying all sorts of things about me,' he says. "My children have also been affected and I have lost a lot of business.' Breaking down into tears, he recalls what he has lost. "But I will let the law take its course. I will not stand in the way of the investigations.' Arthur failed to answer whether his assets were frozen by the Special Investigating Unit. The king of kwaito didn't receive any Public sympathy, instead he was mocked by those who were watching the interview. "Crocodile tears,' said one viewer. Another said, "Poor acting' and another said, "Pearl Thusi can act better.'
THE ACCUSATIONS
The whistle-blower, former 999 Music COO, and Roadshow Management brought Arthur's name into the spotlight when he wrote an affidavit that may bring Arthur to his knees. He stated that the non-profit organisation misused the NLC funds, which also benefited his ex-girlfriends Chomee and CiCi. In his affidavit, Brian went on to say that he and Arthur registered an NPO with the Department of Social Services in 2012. "This organisation was formed with the following people: Arthur Mafokate (Chairperson), Thulisile Jean Madihlaba(Treasurer),Mokoma Rita, Mafokate (DSG), Valentine Mamaila, and Abigail Sithole, which was unlawful and illegal Mokoena was the secretary of the NPO. SIU won an order to freeze Arthur's properties and those belonging to former NLC legal representative Lesley Ramulifho.
WHAT SIU SAYS
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) says that the beneficiaries of the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) grant funding have failed to stop the SIU from taking action against them. Arthur is not the only one being investigated. SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says AFU and SIU have obtained a preservation order to freeze three luxury properties, a plot, and a portion of a farm that are linked to the siphoning of lotteries grant funding meant for community development projects. "The collaboration between the NPA's AFU and SIU is part of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which sees law enforcement agencies coming together to eradicate corruption in South Africa.' They go on to say that, "The SIU was, in terms of ProclamationR32 of 2020, authorised by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration in the affairs of NLC and the conduct of NLC officials, and to recover any financial losses suffered by the State
