Residents of Kagiso are angry that a foreign national shop owner took advantage of a 14-year-old and impregnated her. They told Zimoja that they never want him again in the  area, otherwise they will burn his shop. This after he lured the minor into having sex with him. The mother explained that her daughter stays with the grandmother but when she visited her, she noticed body changes and strange behaviour.

CHARGED WITH STATUTORY RAPE

She said her daughter told her that her grandmother sent her to buy something at the spaza shop  in September. The victim alleged that before leaving the shop, the shop owner asked her to come back again. The mother said, "my daughter explained that she went back and that is when the suspect took her to the back of the shop and slept with her." The mother went on to open a case with the police. SAPS spokesman Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that a 25-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with statutory rape.

IMPREGNATING YOUNG WOMEN

An angry resident said it was a growing trend that shop owners impregnate young women and then they disappear. "Even this one hasn't lived here for long and they t don't stay in the same shop or area  for a long time. He was clearly taking advantage because he knew he would leave the area. It's plain disrespect and the police should keep him in jail. People are angry and if they see him around things won't end well,"he said.

The suspect will soon appear in court.
