A prayer session was held at a school in Pimville to strengthen the Hani family prior to Walus' release. Pastor Thabang Moloi who hosted the service on behalf of Soweto Parliament attempted to console Hani's widow, Limpho Hani, but she wasn't budging. He read out a verse from Joshua in the Bible about forgiveness and asked Limpho to forgive Walus but she retaliated. "No! no! no! he's talking nonsense, you're talking nonsense. Let me tell you something... He's a priest and I'm the one who lost a husband. He hasn't lost a husband and he has no right, in fact nobody has a right to tell me to forgive. It's my feelings. I lost a husband so he mustn't tell me that I should forgive, "said Limpho.
STAYING BEHIND BARS
Janusz Walus was expected to be released on parole yesterday as ordered by the Constitutional Court but he will stay behind bars until further notice. He was set to be released 10 days after the decision was made by the ConCourt but that time frame has since lapsed. The Justice Department has confirmed that Walus, will not be released this week and has to be declared fit by the prison's healthcare first.
STABBED BY MANDELA
Walus was stabbed earlier this week by. a fellow inmate at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional facility where he was kept. The inmate who stabbed Hani has been identified as Mandela Madonsela, a former trainee soldier serving a life sentence for murder and attempted murder. The department explained that an agreement was made between the state attorney and Walus's legal team. He will remain in custody while he receives medical clearance from prison doctors, following his recovery from an attack earlier this week.Justice Minister Ronald Lamola's spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri, released a statement, stating that Walus' parole had not been finalised. "By agreement between his legal representatives and the State attorney, the matter of Mr Walus' parole will only be finalised after he has received the necessary medical clearance from the prison's medical team," said Phiri. The country has been shaken since the news of Walus parole and this was followed by protests by the ANC, SACP, Cosatu and a separate one by the EFF .They all expressed dissapointment and betrayal in the Constitutional Court decision. Walus assassinated Hani in 1993 and served 28 years in prison.
