Police have warned unsuspecting men who fall prey to women who act vulnerable at night. This is said to be a new criminal trend that has surfaced and men are the target. It comes after cases of theft have been opened by male victims who had fallen into the trap of being robbed by unknown women, potentially identified as "women of the night."
MEN SHOULD STOP PICKING UP RANDOM WOMEN
Alberton SAPS Acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Simpe Makopo has revealed that men are reporting cases of theft involving women they offer lifts to at night. "We have discovered that men would pick up random ladies at night and take them to their houses, enjoy themselves and eventually the man would fall asleep. As soon as they sleep, the female culprit will take anything from car keys, cellphones and wallets," he said. He said in some cases even the vehicles are stolen.
THEY DON'T LEAVE A TRACE OF THEIR IDENTITY
Makopo said such cases are becoming a trend and are difficult to work around, as the culprits don't leave a trace of their identity or whereabouts. Men are warned to be extra vigilant when they come across these females. One of the victims who refused to reveal his identity said he gave a lift to two women and a baby on the N12. He said they claimed to be going to North West but struggled to get a lift since they were hiking. "Because I saw that it was already late and they were travelling with a baby I offered to give them a place to sleep at my home in Carltonville. I said I would drop them off at the hiking spot the next morning. To my surprise when I woke up they were gone with all my sneakers, jewelry, my phone and the the R1000 I had in my wallet. When I cleaned the houses I noticed that they had burnt something, I guess it put me into a deep sleep. To this day they've disappeared without a trace. "
