But the organisers have postponed the event to an unconfirmed date due to technical glitches.
CANCELLED?
In a statement sent to ZiMoja, they announced the change in plans sighting new development. "We understand the excitement and anticipation surrounding this event, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to our guests and sponsors," the statement reads. "The decision to postpone the event was not an easy one, but it was made with careful consideration. We are working diligently to identify a new date and we will announce it very soon." The organisers say the voting lines will still remain open.
TICKET SALES
According to an insider working at behind the scenes at the awards, the glitch is due to lack of ticket sales. "The tickets cost R250, R500 and R900, and not enough people have bought tickets," he says "They didn't advertise the event properly. The marketing was lacking and for events like these, people use influencers and marketers to advertise. But with them, dololo!" he adds A performer who was set to perform on the day says they have had to change their plans. "My worry is that whatever date they choose next, I might have a booking. Then it will come back to bite me because I will be seen as a drama queen," she says anonymously. Another male artist who also did not wish to be named says, If they get a booking on the new date, they will have to cancel. "Unfortunately. We understand they are new, but once you decide on a date, you have to commit. Hay Kabi!"
