ANC MP accused of killing his wife has been granted R50 000 bail by the North West High Court on Tuesday morning. On the 23rd of March Sibusiso Kula (34) lodged an appeal at the High Court after the Orkney Magistrates Court denied him bail. Kula is accused of stabbing his wife Jennifer Motlhomi to death in November 2022 at their home in Kanana, North West.
?STATE OPPOSED BAIL
State Advocate Benny Kalakgosi argued strongly for the State not to grant Kula bail. "His legal representative also argued for him to be granted bail. Judge Andre Petersen applied his mind and considered all arguments and supporting documents presented in court before passing his judgment," said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the North West division, Henry Mamothame.
GBV NOT ACCEPTABLE
Chief whip Pemmy Majodina's office said the the ANC parliamentary caucus noted the arrest and court appearance of their MP Sibusiso Kula with dire seriousness. Majodina said their caucus takes matters of GBV seriously. "The ANC caucus called on the National Prosecuting Authority and the courts to act decisively to bring about justice for Motlhomi and her family, as well as many other victims of violent crimes." During his testimony in court, Kula maintained his innocence and claimed that on the 27th of November, the day his wife died, he had a meeting with ANC officials prior to the Nasrec Conference, in the afternoon and informed his wife about it. "I only returned home around 9pm. To my shock, I found my wife struggling t and bleeding through her nose and ears. She was standing and I picked her up and took her to the garage where the car was parked. I rushed her to the clinic and a few minutes after 10pm, I was told that she was dead." he told the court earlier this year.
