PICS: A week of heavy rain

Many people were left homeless after this week's heavy rain

Disaster Management has reported that 80 people that were evacuated from Kliptown and surrounding areas have been accommodated at KYC CENTRE in Kliptown. This is due to the heavy rain that hit Gauteng since Thursday night. EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said those affected by the floods in Kliptown are a walking distance from their homes.

BRIDGES COLLAPSE

Khumalo said  they have also dispatched a team to attend to a car that has fallen off Mdlalose road in Protea North. Many other areas have been affected by flooding in Soweto, Orlando East and Protea are among those places. Bridges have collapsed in areas like Dobsonville Gardens, Braamfischerville, and Thulani in Doornkop. EMS teams have had their hands full attending to one incident after another. Divers and the police have been dispatched to  different scenes, details of what's happening there remain sketchy at the moment.

RESCUE PEOPLE

Close to ten houses near the Protea North bridge were flooded and Joburg Emergency Services managed to successfully rescue people from the area. Meanwhile, Johannesburg Metropolitan Department (JMPD)  spokesperson Xolani Fihla says they have deployed officers to monitor some of the flooded roads in Soweto.n Soweto, there was  flooding at Moroka, Nancefield, Klipspruit Valley road next to the Maponya Dealerships in Orlando West, and in Meadowlands, Tladi and many other roads in Soweto." More rain is expected. Fihla urges residents to report any incident to authorities as soon as they need help.The City's emergency line is (011) 375 5911 or SAPS crime stop number which is 10111, residents can also utilize 10177 or 112 and emergency personnel will be deployed,' said Fihla.
