A man who hacked his wife with an axe and killed her has abandoned bail. John Nkgudi (52) murdered his wife Tinny (51) on 28 January after an argument at their house in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni.
KILLING HER IN FRONT OF THEIR GRANDCHILD
According to the provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Lumka Mahanjana, it is alleged that during the argument Nkgudi stepped outside and fetched an axe, stick, shovel and then started assaulting his wife in front of the grandchild. "During the assault, the deceased ran to the bathroom where she died. When the incident was happening, the six-year-old took footage of what was happening. When Nkgudi realised that the grandson was taking a video of the incident, he took his phone, assaulted him with a shovel, locked him in the wardrobe and fled," Mahanjana said.
GRUESOME DISCOVERY
Mahanjana said Tinny's body was discovered the next day by her daughter when she got home from work. "According to the preliminary investigation, when the daughter could not open the door, she broke in and found her wounded son in the wardrobe. She immediately contacted the police. Her mother was declared dead on the scene." Nkgudi was arrested two days after the incident at a shack in Vukuzenzele. After he was arrested, Nkgudi led the police to a spot where he had hidden his blood-stained clothes. He is expected back in the Tsakane Magistrates court on April 19.
