The late singer Zahara has not been buried yet, but there is already drama behind the scenes. The iconic musician was engaged to be married to her man, Mpho Xaba, and the couple had their 'lobola celebration' ceremony with friends and family days before she fell sick and got admitted to the hospital.
NOT RECOGNISED AS A HUSBAND
The singer's family has since come out to say they do not recognise Mpho as their daughter's husband as he did not pay full lobola. A source close to the family told ZiMoja that Mpho is being sidelined despite his efforts and dedication. According to the source, because he didn't pay full lobola they don't regard him as the official husband. "Things are not good at all, they are using the fact that he did not finish lobola against him," adds the source. According to another source, the drama started at the memorial service last week Thursday, where he was not allowed to speak by certain family members citing that he is not their son-in-law. According to the source, things are so bad between Mpho and the family that they are scared that he might go to court to stop the funeral if they don't include him in the preparations. "They are scared that if things don't go his way, he might take drastic steps," adds the source.
'NO LOBOLA WAS PAID'
When called for comment, family spokesperson Oyama Dyosiba said: "Look there was a family meeting, certain things were brought up including the lobola issue and according to the family, no lobola was paid," he said. Mpho proposed to Zahara, real name Bulelwa Mtukutu in March this year. At the time, the couple said they were going to get married in November. In what looked like the first leg of their wedding, they held a lobola celebration ceremony at Mpho's home in Lydenburg on 12 November. Zahara died from a liver-complicated illness last week Monday. Her body has since been transported back to her hometown of East London in the Eastern Cape where she will be buried this Saturday. Mpho was not available for a comment.
