A woman (49) was arrested in Gugulethu after she was busted by public order police for allegedly dealing in drugs with a street value of R1 million.

Western Cape police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said while officers were patrolling the area, they received a tipoff of a woman alleged to be dealing in drugs. "On Tuesday at about 09:30, the members were busy conducting crime prevention policing and stop and search operations in Gugulethu when they were stopped by a concerned citizen who informed them about a possible drug storage facility at a premises in Bongani Street, New Crossroads, Gugulethu." Van Wyk said while the officers were scouting the woman?s home, they saw people coming in and out of the property and at 1 point, they witnessed something being dropped off. "The members conducted a search of the premises and seized 14,770 mandrax tablets, three packets of tik, six sachets of tik, small quantity of loose tik and a small quantity of cocaine worth R1 million," he said.

Van Wyk said the woman will appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele announced that Amapanyaza will be working hand in hand with SAPS this festive season. Although Cele had initially disapproved of the Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, he has since accepted them as they are officially recognised by Justice Minister Ronald Lamola. "For now, they are attached and delegated to work as traffic wardens in Gauteng, but the national police commissioner has the right to access everybody as we deal with crime prevention."Cele spokesperson Lirandzu Themba said.
