Limpopo police have managed to swiftly arrest two suspects who were allegedly part of a group who set a woman and her house alight at Majosi village in Mopani.Police in Hlanganani, Limpopo, had launched a manhunt for suspects alleged to be responsible for setting a 43-year-old woman on fire and torching her house during a mob attack on Wednesday afternoon in Majosi village, Khawulani section.
LOOKING FOR HUBBY
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the police received information that the attackers, consisting of four men and a woman demanded to know the whereabouts of the woman's husband. Ledwaba said fearing for her safety, she closed the door but the group forcibly entered her home.
"The victim was inside her residence when she saw a group of community members approaching her kraal."
They forced entry and when she replied that she did not know where her husband was, one of the suspects poured petrol over her and another ignited it, setting her ablaze."
Ledwaba said following the attack, they set fire to her two-roomed house and a nearby shack.
The assailants then attempted to burn down the house of another individual but were interrupted by police, who swiftly responded upon receiving the complaint. They then fled the scene. He said the victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
TWO SUSPECTS NABBED
Following the incident, yesterday Hlanganani Police, Vala Umgodi Task Team together with Mopani Tracking team, Giyani, Thohoyandou and Makhado Public Order Policing (POPS) went on a manhunt which resulted in the apprehension of two suspects.
"A 32 year-old male suspect believed to be a ringleader of the group was nabbed while at his residence in Majosi village at about 04:00 and his 31 year-old accomplice was arrested at Masiya village at 10:00,"said Ledwaba.
The suspects are set to appear before the Tiyani Magistrate court on Monday 21 October 2024 facing a charge of attempted murder and arson.
Police investigations are continuing.
