The police in Gauteng have launched a manhunt for two suspects who shot and killed a witness outside the Lenasia Magistrate's Court this morning. The 27-year-old individual was scheduled to provide testimony in a murder trial that occurred in 2021.
IT WAS A HIT
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the murder and said that they suspect that it is linked to the murder case set for trial today. "Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was standing outside court with another witness when he was accosted by two armed men who shot and killed him without saying a word. The other witness was not harmed," Masondo said. Speaking to eNCA, Masondo said that the deceased was a key witness in the murder that took place in Eldorado Park in 2021. "We believe that this was a hit, as the victim was a key witness in the murder case that was set for trial today," he added. He said that the deceased had not alerted the police of any threats from those involved in the murder case. The second witness survived unharmed.
MANHUNT LAUNCHED FOR KILLERS
Masondo added that as the SAPS, they believe their case will continue as they did not have one witness in the matter. "We have more than one witness in this case. We have a watertight case," he said. He said a murder case had been opened and that a manhunt for the killers had been launched. "We are appealing to anyone with information that can help in the investigation or help apprehend the suspects to come forward," he said. The court was closed off for the day.
