Wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso "KG' Montjane has competed in all four Grand Slam tennis tournaments: the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, the US Open, and Wimbledon. She was meant to participate at the Paris Paralympics 2024, which started on 28 August; however, due to the passing of her mother this month, she has put all plans on hold to focus on her healing.
FOR HER MENTAL WELLNESS
Kgothatso's mother passed away just a week after her historic Wimbledon victory. "The emotional impact of this loss has been profound and KG is currently struggling to recover mentally. Her mental health and well-being are our utmost priority,' her team at Optimize said. "This has been one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make, but I know it's the right one for my well-being. My mother's passing has left me an immense void, and I need time to heal mentally,' Kgothatso said.
HARD WORKER
Growing up in Seshego, Polokwane, with a disability, she understood early that she needed to work harder than her peers. Kgothatso was born with a congenital birth defect and had to be amputated from below the knee at 12 years old. She started playing tennis at 19 years old and worked hard to earn her accolades. She holds a BSc degree in Recreation and Leisure from the University of Venda.
