Angel Zuma, best known for her conniving on-screen character of Nomkhosi, has wowed South Africans with her admirable talent. The actress, who rose to fame following a her role as Zethu on Uzalo, eventually landed the role she's most known for- Nomkhosi, the wife of Khulekani Mthembu on Umkhokha: The Curse.

Sources close to her say she has now been offered a lucrative role on the internationally acclaimed musical drama, The Lion King. According to a source, Angel did not think twice about joining the award-winning musical which tours North America and worldwide. "My friend has always wanted to go and work abroad. You don't miss an opportunity of working in a production like The Lion King. It is every actors dream," added the source. Another source close to her said she informed her producers at Umkhokha about quitting just after she signed her contract with the international production.

The source said producers were not prepared to lose her, especially because she a fan favourite. "They wanted to see more of her on the show because she performs it with aplomb," said source. According to an insider, producers are now left with a huge task to either find a replacement or kill her character. Currently Nomkhosi and her hubby Khulekani are forming a breakaway church led by his brother, Siphamandla Mthembu played by Nay Maps.

"I am not sure how they are going to play out this one because she did not leave under a cloud. She might come back and shoot her exit scenes properly," said the insider.

NO PLANS FOR HER CHARACTER

The source added that Angel is leaving the telenovela when character was getting developed and that producers might even find it difficult to get someone to replace her. "This is because her role is prominent. The writers and producers will have to meet and discuss a way forward. However, I know they are looking at holding auditions next week to either try and replace her or find new characters," said the source. Portia Hlongwane, publicist for Mzansi Magic confirmed that Angel has gotten an amazing opportunity to be part of the Lion King in Canada (Toronto). "She is excited for the opportunity... viewers can continue to see her on screen," Hlongwane said.
