Award-winning KwaZulu Natal DJ Philani "DJ Mpiloz" Manyoni currently based in Washington DC, USA has proposed to his sweetheart Abbey Gelsomina who doubles up as a singer on his single Sunday Night.

LOVE

DJ Mpiloz (33) from Estcourt, met Abbey at Connecticut, West Haven Beach, and they said they were introduced to each other by her puppy when it followed him and his sister. "She came after the puppy and said her dog didn't like strangers and that it was weird that it followed us," DJ Mpiloz said. The two have been dating for five months. Abbey and Mpiloz have music in common. "Our relationship is doing great ever since I even found out she's an artist. She was hiding it till she told me she's about to release her EP soon."

THE PROPOSAL

He said when he proposed, it was almost like a joke. "My sister Celiwe told me she got the wedding ring that she would like to give to me or her son. I was the lucky one and she was ready to be in my life," he said.

WINNING

The DJ recently won Best International Act at the awards in Bridgeport, USA. "This means a lot after a rough two years after my mom passed away. Hopefully, this will start opening doors for me because this industry is hard when you don't have a connection," he said. "So, I cannot explain how much it means to me and my mom is happy wherever she is and proud," he added. With all the international recognition, he hopes to be more appreciated back home in South Africa.
