South Africa is mourning the loss of veteran actor Patrick Ndlovu. Known to many as Ntate Moloi from SABC 1 drama series Zone 14, Ndlovu died at home at the age of 85. His management company Moonyeenn Lee Associates (MLA SA Agency) confirmed the news today in a statement. He reportedly died after a short illness.

DIED PEACEFULLY AT HOME

According to a source close to the family, Ndlovu, who was scarce from small screens, had not been sick for too long, as he was recently seen at South Gate Mall in good shape not so long ago," adds the source. "He died peacefully, and he was surrounded by his family, " adds the source. In a statement, MLA SA also paid tribute to the fallen icon. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor, Patrick Ndlovu, whose acting career spanned more than four decades. Patrick was best known for his role as Sizwe Moloi in the SABC1 drama series Zone 14 and as school principal, Mr Thembu, in the popular tv series, Yizo Yizo. "We were proud to represent such a consummate professional and majestic talent. He was a kind and gentle man, always ready with a smile even when times were tough. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, family, and friends. We will miss you, Patrick. RIP" read the statement

PAYING TRIBUTES 

Although his family has not yet issued a formal statement, about his passing, ZiMoja has learnt that some actors and producers he worked with, visited his home this morning to convey their condolences."They are sad but also understand he was old and had lived his life to the fullest," adds the source. With an acting career spanning over 40 years, Ndlovu is one of the most respected and distinguished actors in the South African acting industry. But one of the most memorable roles of Bab’ Ndlovu has to be the one of Mr. Moloi on Zone 14 where he played the owner of a funeral parlour. In a short statement, SABC 1 also sent condolences to Ndlovu’s family for their loss. "The channel is saddened by his passing. We will remember him fondly for his starring roles on our drama’s Yizo Yizo and Zone 14," the station said.  An industry colleague and actor Sonia Mbele says: "SABC 1 drama series Zone 14 had four seasons and trust us, we never got tired of seeing Bab’ Ndlovu as he played the role of Ntate Moloi. He mastered this role of the villain, and it with so much ease, he was clean and dressed nicely all the time. He always left viewers wanting more. You couldn’t help but have a love-hate relationship with his character,"

HIS OTHER TV ROLES

Ndlovu has also appeared in numerous TV dramas such Gaz’ Lam acting as Sfiso’s uncle, season 2 of The Wild as Masilo. He also acted in the award-winning film Cry, The Beloved Country (1995). One of his latest roles was in the telenovela The Queen on Mzansi Magic.
