He is in the final stages of completing his upcoming solo album, away from veteran hip-hop group, Skwatta Kamp. Rapper, actor and TV presenter, Bozza, real name Nkosana Nkosi has not yet decided on a name for the project but believes it will be a hit.

The project will feature, vocalist Mami, Cheryl Zondi, Relo (Skwatta Kamp) and Kid X. "The album is not genre based. Even back then with Skwatta Kamp, we called the sound Mkhukhu Funk. It was different from what most people do. Songs like Landel' and Eskhaleni were not necessarily hip-hop.' His project is influenced by Afrobeats, RnB, jazz and Amapiano to name a few. "It's an urban fusion album.'

SKWATTA KAMP

His first solo project was titled Inja Yakhona in the early 2000s and his last was After Tears ,which was an independent album. Skwatta Kamp has been together for over 25 years and although rumours of the group parting ways, he has no plans of leaving as they do not intend to dismantle the group. "The group has never dismantled. I don't know why those rumours came out. We have just never been consistent in releasing music together.' In 2023 however, they reunited and released an album titled SVN. "We were not in public too much and that is why people thought that we parted ways.'

A FAMILY BOND

He says he will always be part of the group. "I will always be a part of Skwatta Kamp. I don't know what would make me leave. We still hang out together, gig and work together. I had a chat with the guys about my moves and they are more than happy for me and excited. They prayed and wished me well and looking forward to supporting my every move,' he says adding that, "It will always work out with us because, before the business of music, there's a brotherhood and sisterhood with Relo. We grew up together. We met when I was 17. We have always been close. I stayed at Lebo's house every time we had to record because I came from Heidelburg. Nemza stayed at Slikour's house. We spent time at each other's homes. The bond is too deep, we are inseparable, although we have fought like any other group of siblings.' Bozza says not much has changed about the group except them being grown-ups "We now have families. Most of us have wives and kids and we don't get to spend as much time with each other. When we are together, we tend to stretch it and have drinks together. We still gig together and spend time laughing, chatting, and sharing experiences. We talk about businessesn and responsibilities and give each other advice.'

STAYING RELEVANT

He has stayed relevant outside of making music by acting but things have not been easy. He has had a few cameo roles on shows such as Gomora and Ekasi: Our Stories. He also has had a few short-term stints on TV. "I've enjoyed acting and TV presenting. It's also helped to keep me relevant,' he says. But when business has been quiet, he has enjoyed quality time with family. "I am about to get back into being busy again with the project.'

FAKE IT

Bozza says the hardships of show business are real and he has had a few setbacks. "The industry is plastic at times and the information is kept by those who have it and not shared with those who need it. There's no honesty and a lack of transparency,' he says. "Everyone is out there looking out for themselve... everyone is on survival mode,' he says. "It's hard being a black person coming from a disadvantaged home, trying to make it. Some people in the industry are just greedy and won't share opportunities." But he admits to having changed much from the guy who started with Skwatta Kamp over 25 years ago. "I'm still hustling. I will never be the same, however. I am a spiritual person now. My soul has been through some downs that have changed me. But now more than ever, I am more of a positive person and I am wiser. I realise that I am a powerful being. The biggest lesson I've learned is that life is short, so, you have to spend your day like it is your last. Hence, I felt so hungry for a different success and journey. I have had an intense spiritual journey. I love that I didn't prioritise trends or chase clout but focused on my calling in the industry. This is what I came to do,' he concludes.
