A member of gang was burnt to death at in KwaMhlanga in Mpumalnga on Tuesday. Sbusiso Kubayi (17) from kwaMahlanga was a well known gang member who was linked to theft that was happening in Mandela Section and there are allegations that the gang is also linked to the murder of one of the prominent community members. It is alleged that Kubayi and his crew are suspected of killing a community member after mugging him, taking his cellphone and wallet two weeks ago.
It is alleged that the community had had enough of Kubayi them that it ended up ugly with the community taking matters into their own hands and burning him in full view of the community at th eMandela Section sports ground.
This is the second incident where community members have burnt someone alive on the allegations that there are crimes they had committed in the area.
Last week a man was burnt alive after he was kidnapped from the police following allegations that he killed his girlfriend and ran away.
Two community members who spoke to ZiMoja and asked not be named said that anyone who is terrorising their community will be burnt alive.
"We are sick and tired of being bullied by young kids. They are running around breaking into people's houses, robbing people of their cellphones and now they are even killing community members. It is about time that every parent instils discipline in their children because if they don't, this place is going to be a place of death. It is going to become a place where we burn alive those who are terrorising the community. Enough is enough," said the community member.
Another member of the community said that it was good riddance to the young boy. "This young boy and his crew are fearless. A month has not passed since their leader, known as Dwzidwzi, was also killed by the community. I think this young man thought he would take charge and continue leading that stupid gang. Unfortunately it had to end with him being necklaced with a tyre and burnt to death. Slowly but surely we are able to get the message across that if you do crime, you will end up dead because the police are not helping at all," said another community member.
KwaMhlanga Police Spokesperson Sergeant Zimkhona Mahlangu confirmed the incident and indicated that the police were called after the the victim was already torched by the community next to Senzangakhona School at the sports ground.
"The police were informed that the community was burning someone at the school's sports ground. They then went to the place and upon arrival at the scene they found a small group of community members standing around a completely burnt body. Next to the body were wires of a burnt tyre. The deceased was identified by his aunt. It is alleged that the deceased was a member of a gangster group, which committed crimes. Suspects are unknown and investigation continues," she said
