Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said the teenage suspect was arrested by the Gauteng anti-gang unit and detained at the Walter Sisulu Juvenile Centre. "The girl was arrested following a video that went viral on social media where she was seen firing shots at a cemetery. She was traced and was arrested at home, and the police are looking for other people related to the same incident," Kweza said. She added that the police are still looking for the firearm.

CRACKDOWN

Meanwhile, Kweza explained that the arrest was part of a greater crackdown, where police seized 63 firearms and more than 1,400 rounds of ammunition last week. "These firearms were recovered in the five districts during various operations and stop and searches. In one of the incidents, firearms were recovered and two suspects were arrested in Westbury," she said. Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni, commended the police for their crime-fighting efforts. "All the recovered firearms will be subjected to a ballistic test to determine whether they can be linked to other serious crimes committed," said Mthombeni.
