An 18-year-old teenager who had gone to visit his girlfriend and mistaken for a goat thief was assaulted to death. Kamva Diniso (18) from Baziya outside Umtata in the Eastern Cape succumbed to his injuries on the scene on Sunday.
ACCUSED OF TRYING TO STEAL GOATS
It's alleged that Kamva was attacked and beaten to death following accusations that he was caught trying to steal goats from his girlfriend's house. According to Kamva's friend, who did not want to be named, the grade 10 learner had gone to his girlfriend's house to meet her. He hid himself behind the water tank, waiting for her to come out. "Kamva and his girlfriend will normally chill in the yard until later while the grandmother is sleeping because the girl only stayed with her. He was not aware that there were other family members who had visited for the long weekend. While he was hiding, one of the girlfriend's uncles saw him and alerted others," the boy said. The friend who did not want to be named told ZiMoja that the family chased Kamva with other community members joining in and accusing him of trying to steal the goats.
KILLED BY THE MOB
According to the friend, while he was being chased by the family, they kept screaming for help, and more people joined in the chase. "They caught up with him, and he was assaulted. Everyone was convinced that he was at the house to steal goats. But we were shocked when we got closer to see who it was and found that it was; it turned out it was Kamva. He was badly injured," he said. EC police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the police are investigating a case of murder following the assault of an 18-year-old boy to death on Sunday.
