KwaZulu-Natal Hawks have arrested two suspects for allegedly selling drugs at a rehabilitation centre in Durban on Wednesday. The Hawks KZN spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said the suspects aged between 32 and 40 years old were arrested after authorities received a tip-off.

NO SHAME

Mhlongo said members received a tip-off about suspects who allegedly approached people in rehab, situated inside a municipal building and sold them drugs. "A disruptive operation was conducted inside the Rehabilitation Centre and a search was conducted. Police found and seized pieces of crack cocaine, heroin capsules, mandrax tablets and Xanax tablets to the street value of approximately R74,425," Mhlongo said. He added that two 9mm magazines with live rounds of ammunition were also seized. "The two suspects were placed under arrest and charged accordingly and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court soon."

WATCHING THEM

Meanwhile, three weeks ago, the police stopped cocaine from Brazil with a street value of approximately R70 million from reaching its intended market. In a statement, SAPS highlighted that for the past month, SAPS Durban harbour members have been monitoring and keeping surveillance on a vessel that was making its way to South Africa from Brazil. "Prior to the vessel arriving at the Port of Durban, members intercepted the identified vessel and mobilised various units and resources to conduct a search and seizure operation on the identified containers. Today, a multidisciplinary operation was conducted and 20-litre paint containers were seized. Inside, police found 200 blocks of cocaine worth R70 million," SAPS said on Wednesday.
