They were doing some construction work at home when they had an altercation. Out of anger, the 28-year-old man hacked his father to death with a spade. The incident has left the village of Motetema in Leeuwfontein, Limpopo, in shock.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect had an argument with his 58-year-old father yesterday at their home. "According to the reports, the two were doing some construction work in the yard when they got into an altercation. In reaction, the son grabbed a spade, hacking the victim multiple times. After the incident, police as well as the Emergency Medical Services in Motetema were summoned to the said location where upon arrival they found the victim lying in a pool of blood," Ledwaba explained. He added that the father was certified dead on the scene and the police also managed to apprehend the suspect.
Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the brutal incident. "We urge community members to resolve matters in a civil manner rather than resorting to violence. The brutal and senseless attack could have been avoided if they made a decision to seek professional help," said General Hadebe. Police have opened a case of murder and are currently investigating the circumstances which might have led to the brutal act. The suspect is expected to appear before the Motetema Magistrates Court tomorrow, facing a charge of murder.
