The police have shot and killed six suspected criminals in Inanda township, north of Durban in KwaZulu Natal, in the wee hours of this morning.
It is alleged that the notorious criminals are part of the gang that has been terrorising the community of Inanda and surroundings townships like KwaMashu, Ntuzuma, Lindelani and Phoenix. Three suspects were arrested and a couple of rifles were discovered on the scene. The notorious gang is famously known for car hijackings, murder, robbery, fraud and drug dealings in the area. The six suspects who were shot and killed are said to have challenged the cops to try and arrest and vowed that they will retaliate by shooting them when they do so.
KZN provincial spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker confirmed the incident. " Police operationalised intelligence about the whereabouts of the suspects who were wanted for a spate of house robberies, murders, business robbery and carjacking. Intelligence led the police to a house in Emachobeni in Inanda where upon announcing their arrival, the suspects responded with a hail of bullets towards the police and the men of law returned fire. After the shootout, six suspects were found to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds and three more suspects, two men and a 31-year-old woman, were arrested. One police officer was grazed with a bullet on the hand," Naicker said, adding that further said that two rifles and a shotgun were found in the possession of the suspects, as well as vehicle which was hijacked at KwaDabeka in December 2023. "The arrested suspects will be presented before court soon," he said. Last year, ZiMoja reported about 17 notorious criminals that were shot and killed by SAPS in Inanda.T he number of the notorious gang members who has been shot and kind in Inanda now stands at 24.
