On social media, he is always bubbly and funny. But behind the humour and jokes, Shebesxht, real name Lehlogonolo Chauke, is still mourning the loss of his daughter, who passed away during a tragic accident, while they were on their way to an event in June. The Ambulance singer said that that fateful day changed the status of his finances and his life and he is struggling to cope.
MONEY ISSUES
He expressed how he acts as though everything is okay, but he is having financial issues. "Since my return, it seems as though I have money, but I have been struggling," he said. "My biggest regret since returning from the hospital was listening to people advise me not to take gigs because they would sabotage me. I still owe many people who booked me before the accident." He said he is attending gigs where money was paid upfront. "I had R2 million in debt. I now have over a million after making R500k from The Return of Shebeshxt donations for my daughter's foundation, which does not yet have proper documentation." He added that he is not asking for donations or sympathy but expressing his pain.
REFUNDING PROMOTERS
Shebeshxt added that he had taken bookings after his daughter's passing but could not attend them and he is now forced to refund the event organisers. "They used my daughter's name to focus on the return of Shebeshxt, which only gave me R500k; now I'm left with debt," he said. "After that horrible accident, I had gigs to attend; now I'm refunding them over millions. But it's fine; only God knows."
OFFERING HELP
Fellow Limpopo musician Makhadzi has offered to help the artist. "Sharing is caring, bafana; your statement broke my heart," she told Shebeshxt. "I just love the fact that you are strong, like me. You know how to hide the pain. I was with you two days ago, recording throughout the night as if you were 100 % fine. I read that you don't want anyone to help you. But I am kindly willing to help you. I will disclose how I am going to help you with your team in private," Makhadzi concluded.
