"Senzo Meyiwa's murder was a contractual assassination"

Suspects in the Senzo Meyiwa murder are back in court after a two month break

After a two-month adjournment, the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumed at the North Pretoria High Court, where an affidavit by the lead investigator in the matter revealed that the Bafana Bafana goal keeper's murder was a hit. The affidavit by Brigadier Bongani Gininda who is currently on the witness stand was allegedly used to apply for arrest warrants of the accused.

IT WAS A HIT

Gininda's affidavit read in court today states that evidence obtained under oath from the accused reveals that Meyiwa's murder was a hit rather than a robbery gone wrong. The affidavit also reveals the alleged role of each of the accused in the execution of the murder. "Evidence under oath revealed that five suspects actively participated in the planning and execution of the contractual assassination. The planning of the hit happened at Vosloorus hostel. Accused number one Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya was further linked with circumstantial evidence wherein minutes after the incident, he made disclosure and remarks about the murder at a family gathering in Vosloorus before the killing of Senzo was reported in the media." He said Sibiya was further linked by means of a formal confession he made to the independent officer on the 30th of May 2020 shortly after his arrest.

A LONG TIME COMING

This year will mark 10 years since Meyiwa's murder on 26 October 2014. Meyiwa was shot and killed in a suspected robbery gone wrong at his girlfriend singer Kelly Khumalo's house in Vosloorus. Muzikawulahlelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Ntuli are currently standing trial for the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper's murder. They were arrested in 2020, six years after the incident.
