Senzo Meyiwa murder trial adjourned as one of the accused falls sick

Accused number 5 Fisokuhle Ntuli

The North Gauteng High Court has adjourned the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial until tommorow following the ill health of one of the accused. Accused number five Fisokuhle Ntuli is said to be ill and needs medical attention. His defence Advocate Zandile Mshololo told the court about her client’s inability to come to the trial.

SICK NOTE

"My client informed me this morning that he’s not feeling well and we would like to request a postponement so that he could be taken to the hospital," said Mshololo. The state opposed the postponement and read out relevant sections of the law, which relate to circumstances under which court proceedings can continue in the absence of the accused in court. However, Judge Ratha Mokgoathleng ordered that accused number five, be examined by a medical practitioner today and that a medical report be presented to court on tomorrow.

CREDIBILITY

The defence was expected to continue to poke holes in Constable Sizwe Skhumbuzo Zungu’s version that the accused were at a hostel in Vosloorus the night Meyiwa was shot and killed. Ntuli found himself in trouble last week after he was caught on camera making hand gestures towards Zungu, who was on the stand as a witness. State prosecutor George Baloyi has described the gestures as a pull of a trigger. Zungu testified that the suspects knew about the soccer star’s killing before it was officially announced and that they celebrated his death with a whiskey. The court adjourned and the trial is expected to continue tomorrow.
