The police have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects after a healthcare worker was shot dead outside Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital yesterday. It is alleged that the senior oral hygienist (53) was on her way to work at the Lilian Ngoyi Community Centre when the gruesome incident happened.
LEAVING NO STONE UNTURNED
According to sources, the attacker allegedly walked up to her car window and shot her, that's when the healthcare worker lost control of the car and hit a pole. The Gauteng Department of Health spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba, said the news of the shooting incident was met with pain. "The news of this gruesome murder has been received with sadness and deep shock among health workers. We convey our deep condolences to the family of our fallen colleague," he said. The MEC for Health Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko has urged law enforcement to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.
SAPS CONFIRMS
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said, "It is reported that the victim was driving in Diepkloof, Soweto, when she was accosted by suspects who shot at her while inside the car. The deceased vehicle crashed into the streetlight pole and came to a halt. The victim was certified dead at the scene," Police Minister Bheki Cele released crime statistics for the last quarter yesterday which revealed violent crimes against women and children were on the rise.
