Another matric exam marker has died at a centre in Kimberly, Northern Cape. Her death follows that of a marker who was reported in Gauteng just days ago. Blessing Mthethwa, passed away in the early hours of Monday morning following an epileptic attack.
DEEPLY SADDENED
Education spokesperson, Geoffrey vd Merwe, said Mthethwa served as an educator at the Hotazel Combined School and was on duty at one of the marking centres in Kimberley. "The department is deeply saddened by the incident and has since notified the school and her family immediately and offered the necessary support. We have also activated our psycho-social support services to the school and her colleagues for counselling sessions," said Van der Merwe. The MEC for Education Abraham Vosloo conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, as well as her colleagues in the education sector.
ANOTHER MAKER DIED
In Gauteng, a female matric marker died after a freak accident at the Alberton Marking Centre last Tuesday. The teacher allegedly tripped and hit her head against a pole while leaving the centre. According to the Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the isiXhosa maker was immediately rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries that same night.
