Former Ukhozi FM presenter Sbu Buthelelezi has finally broken his silence on allegations that he scammed a number of people from his hometown of Nquthu in KwaZulu Natal, which led to him being fired from the station. It’s alleged that Buthelezi’s Amombuso Investment Group encouraged investors to put their money into the scheme for five months, promising them a 100% profit.
NABBED
Buthelezi reportedly sold his house in Umhlanga in Durban earlier this year and went into hiding as those who invested money were after him. He went into hiding at his parents’ home shortly after that. He was nabbed on Monday by vigilante group called Isikebhe at his parents’ home. This is after Gcinumuzi Msibi, whom he allegedly scammed of R600 000, reported him to the group.
SPEAKING OUT
Speaking for the first time since he was fired from Ukhozi, Buthelezi said his intention was not to scam those who invested in his scheme. According to Buthelezi, he has been receiving donations from his fans since the news of him being apprehended by Isikhembe broke. He said he was grateful for the donations he has been receiving from his fans since Monday. "I have never imagined that the power of social media will one day come in handy for me. Since yesterday I have been in tears because the love people have shown me is amazing. I never expected such a response from the South African public. I am honoured and grateful for everything," he said. Buthelezi promised his fans that he would address them face-to-face soon. " I am grateful to everyone who took their time and money and donated to me in order to be able to pay back the people who had invested in my business. It was never my plan to let everyone down but being fired from Ukhozi FM also affected me a lot. I will make time and address you when I am mentally prepared," said Buthelezi.
