The police in the Vhembe district in Limpopo have arrested one of their own for the alleged assault of his wife at their home in Mavhunga village in Nzhelele. The 46-year-old officer is attached to the Modimolle K9 Unit.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said reports indicate that the suspect arrived home on Friday, 05 January at about 22:00, and woke his wife up. "The two got into a heated argument and the suspect brutally assaulted his wife with fists until she fell. The victim managed to escape and ran outside the yard but the suspect allegedly followed her until the victim got assistance from a motorist who gave her a lift to Mphephu Police Station," he said. Mashaba said the victim opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. "The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is attached to SAPS Modimolle K9 Unit. He is expected to appear before Dzanani Magistrates Court soon," said Mashaba.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the actions of the police officer.

We therefore view these allegations seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation.
