The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Postbank has urged beneficiaries to be cautious when replacing their cards to prevent scams.
ADHERE TO DEADLINES
SASSA and Postbank announced that 28 February 2025 is the deadline for replacing the SASSA yellow gold card with the new Postbank black card. "The replacement process began in September last year, introducing the new cards that offer enhanced security features and improved functionality," said Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe. Mbengashe warned that beneficiaries who fail to meet the deadline to replace their cards will not be able to access their grant payments. "Please go to your nearest checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Usave, or Boxer to find Postbank tellers who will be able to help you swap your card.'
BEWARE OF SCAMMERS
Mbengashe urged beneficiaries to ensure that they only deal with authorised personnel and keep their cards and IDs safe. "Please ensure that you bring your South African identity document for us to be able to verify you for the exchange of your card,' said Mbengashe. Mbengashe added:"Our strategy for where we chose to issue our cards is based on where customers already get their grants. We have worked with these retailers because they are familiar to our customer and we endeavoured to be as close as possible to where most beneficiaries are in each province.'
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou said beneficiaries should not wait until their cards stop working to replace them. "Our appeal to social grant beneficiaries is that they should not wait until the last minute or for when their cards stop working. They must get their Postbank black cards now at their nearby card replacement site as that will guarantee they continue receiving their payments.
