A 37-year-old man is wanted by the Limpopo police for allegedly assaulting his mother to death after she asked him to lower the radio volume. The incident happened on Sunday night at their home in Ga-Mampa Village, outside Sekhukhune in Limpopo.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the victim (77) was assaulted by her son when she told him to stop playing music loudly because it was late at night. "It is alleged that the victim was with her 17-year-old grandson when the suspect arrived and played music loudly. The elderly woman tried to reprimand her son but he became aggressive and started physically attacking her," said Mashaba, adding that the grandson, who is the suspect's son, tried to intervene but he was also assaulted. "The 17-year-old then ran to the neighbours' houses to ask for help and the police were called to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the victim lying unconsciously on the floor and bleeding heavily," he said.
Mashaba added that the gogo sustained injuries throughout her body. "She was certified dead on the scene by the medical emergency services personnel," said Mashaba. The woman's 37-year-old son had already fled the scene before police arrived. Police have opened a case of murder. Meanwhile, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the scourge of gender-based violence against the elderly in Limpopo.
