Infrastructure maintenance to disrupt water supply for five weeks in Joburg

Rand Water shutdown to begin on Saturday

Rand Water has announced a five-week long maintenance process which will begin from tomorrow to the 29 July. According to Rand Water, the infrastructure maintenance will affect the water supply to Johannesburg Water's systems pumped by Palmiet, Eikenhof, and Daleside Booster stations.

The affected areas include Sandton, Midrand, South Hills Tower, Alexandra Park, Randjeslaagte, and Linksfield reservoirs. Johannesburg Water's Logan Moonsamy explained that they will provide stationary tanks, which will be filled up and supplemented with roaming water tankers. "The maintenance aims to improve the reliability and efficiency of water infrastructure. The maintenance project will be carried over on different dates in different areas. During this time, Johannesburg Water customers will be impacted by low pressure to no water supply," said Moonsamy.

Moonsamy said they will arrange alternative water supply for vital facilities like hospitals, schools, and shopping centres."We have engaged with our municipal customers and continue to engage and officially notify them about the upcoming maintenance project to ensure that they have a 21-day period to plan, put appropriate contingency plans in place, manage storage capacity before and during the maintenance period and inform their customers accordingly, Rand Water will provide updates throughout the maintenance period," he said.
