"I'm at home!" - Zizi Kodwa

Zizi Kodwa has been accused of corruption

Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, has dismissed reports that he surrendered himself to the police this morning and will be appearing in court.

ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION

In 2022, the State Capture Commission chaired by Justice Raymond Zondo heard how businessman and former EOH boss Jehan Mackay paid over R650 000 for Kodwa's luxururious holidays in Cape Town, in 2015 and 2016. Mackay also loaned him more than R1.7 million. At the time of receiving the payments, Kodwa was an ANC spokesperson and Deputy Minister of State Security. The commission recommended that Ramaphosa considers the position of Mr Kodwa as Deputy Minister of State Security. The commission also recommended that law enforcement investigate attempts by Mackay to pursue Kodwa to interfere with procurement processes in the interest of EOH.

DISMISSING HE WILL BE APPEARING IN COURT

Sources close to the Minister confirmed that he handed himself over at the Sandton Police Station where he was charged with corruption over the R1.7 million alleged bribe. "He went to the police station with his lawyer, and I believe he was released on bail. He will appear in the Palm Ridge Specialised Crime Court tomorrow,' the source said. However, Kodwa dismissed that. "I don't know what you are talking about, I am home as we speak.' Asked if he would be appearing in court tomorrow, Kodwa told Zimoja, "I don't have such an item on my diary tomorrow,'

ANC MEMBERS IN TROUBLE WITH THE LAW

Former Parliament Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, has been charged in similar circumstances of corruption. Last week, it was reported AfriForum was ready to prosecute former Sports Minister and current ANC heavyweight, Fikile Mbalula, for receiving a bribe in a form of a family trip to Dubai in December 2016.
