Out with the old, in with the new!

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba, Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi and Bosa founder Mmusi Maimane will be heading to Parliament

It will be the end of the road for some parties in the National Assembly. This comes after the emergence of newly formed political parties that have made their mark in the political arena.

EXITING PARLIAMENT

The African Independent Congress (AIC), National Freedom Party (NFD), Congress of the People (Cope), and Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) will be among the parties that will not make it back to the new National Assembly. The leading African National Congress (ANC) is on the verge of being forced into a coalition government with opposition parties if they want to stay in power. Currently, the ANC is leading the polls followed by the Democratic Alliance with the newly formed MK Party in third place.

NEW PARTIES

MK Party which was formed late last year is currently doing well in the polls and they will debut the National Assembly with over 50 seats. Other new parties that will make their way to the National Assembly are Rise Mzansi of Songezo Zibi, Build One South Africa (Bosa) led by former DA leader Mmusi Maimane and ActionSA formed by former Joburg Herman Mashaba. The outgoing parties were able to get their seats in the National Assembly after they managed to acquire 2 seats for each party. The newly incoming parties which will hold the fort with the likes of Good Party and Al Jamah will hold a 2 % presentation each in Parliament. Speaking about the votes they managed to get across South Africa, Zibi said: "We are excited about the number of votes we managed to garner throughout the country. We are making a mark, and this was the first election that we participated in. We are now focused on the 2026 local government elections." Maimane thanked his supporters for the support they showed to his party. "Thank you very much for the support you showed us. Without you, we were never going to make it this far. We promise not to let you down," he said.
